Why do photographers get up at 4am?

So, why do photographers get up at 4am? It almost sounds like a : Why did the chicken cross the road question. Well the answer is that we would like to use that very special first light, often referred to as the golden hour.

So when last did you do something like that, i.e. getup at 4am. Well I did last Saturday.  got up at 4am and left home shortly afterwards to be at the South African Airforce Museum at 4H30. We got to wake-up the guards at the gate, and then we waited for the sun. And guess what? A massive fog bank positioned itself over the Zwartkops Airforce base. So you must be thinking that it was a waste to get up at that insane time. Well it was not. You arrive there with a picture in your mind that you would like to photograph. And none of them looked like we envisaged. Some might have left disappointed…….I did not. I would have been there again on Sunday and any other day as it was magical. Maybe the photo below can give you some indication of why I would say that. Well happy snappy until next time.
